It may be worth the UK FA's asking FIFA who they feel exactly is offended by this?
I mean, I can understand political messages because they can offend people who don't believe in them or what they stand for.
I can understand racial slogans or messages for obvious reasons. Zenophobic slogans or messages. Everything else that they feel is unacceptable at football matches.
But seriously, who does a poppy offend? It's merely a show of remembrance to men and woman who have been killed in military service. Who does that offend?
Does it offend Neo-Nazi's as the Allied troops in the 2nd World War prevented the world being ruled and governed by Nazi's.
Does it offend the Taliban? Or Al-Qaieda? As troops in the Middle East have prevented Islamic Extremists from taking large foot-holds in various middle Eastern countries.
Just who are FIFA actually defending from offence?
They need to answer this question. And if I was a member of one of the UK FA's I'd tell them they can basically go and swivel until an answer is given and an explanation for it.

Am bloody furious at this lily-livered organisation. If you think they have it wrong about the Remembrance poppy, let them know and don't mince your words. I certainly haven't in my email to them

I take your point. We certainly don't want anything like the "Nazi Olympics" again. The thing is, FIFA is in a total mess over this.
They DO allow religious symbols on kits (turbans, veils)
How do they need to "INVESTIGATE" displays of poppies? It fucking happened, and they knew it was going to happen.
They still appointed the ref who sanctioned and managed a minutes silence, thus they are complicit in organising the remembrance themselves, the daft cunts.
I'm not moaning about any corruption here. Separate point. They're just totally inept.

Take the Dutch flag. That is a symbol of a political union - 13 individual states coming together under political unity. France, likewise with 7 (or 8) states, Germany (the one that we know) many, many kingdoms in a political exclusive union.
This is just somebody either attention seeking or setting up a smoke screen as a diversionary tactic in the hope something similar to Blatter & his cronies does not reach the public.
I think the home nation FAs should call beard on this one and take it to the wire.

I couldn't give a shit about some token African cunt's opinion, and your Japanese example is irrelevant. the Poppy appeal isn't specific to any particular conflict and has been marked every year for the last few years by clubs. I don't often agree with the FA but they were spot on and FIFA can sick on my hairy nutsack

It's a reasonable rule that political symbols should not be displayed at international matches. To us the poppy is not overtly political, but it doesn't take much imagination to understand that other nations (in particular those on the other side in various 20th century wars) see it as such.
Suppose England were playing in Tokyo and the Japanese wanted to mark the occasion with a visible tribute to their own war dead; can you imagine the outcry bearing in mind that many of those they were honouring would have been involved in the capture and treatment of Allied POWs?
It's no good saying that it's not the same thing because we were the good guys and didn't start the conflicts: the idea is to keep politics out of football, not to start debates about the rights and wrongs of war.
The various home FAs were engaging in self-rghteous showiness in organising these displays. I have no time for FIFA in most matters but in this they are the ones taking the sensible view.
